“Race Rivalry” Released

“Race Rivalry,” the third book in the Gate Ghosts series, is available on Amazon U.S. in ebook and print versions.

I recommend first reading the previous two series of the Earthers’ saga, The Silver Ships and Pyreans, to understand some of the nuances in this new series.

Summary: Miriamal and three mining chairpersons investigate an unexplored wormhole aboard the Dominance. They exit the wormhole and are stunned to find the nearby system inhabited. More troubling, technologically advanced warships hold station above the system’s exoplanet.

Scott, YOU are the gifted storyteller (no offense to Nira). As I read Race Rivalry, you quickly transformed (once again) from great writer into a person imparting events and conversations taking place…real events, not words on a page. Your talent to take me away from the real world and transport me to yours is, well, uncanny. From the descriptors used in defining “uncanny”, those I want you to consider are: remarkable, extraordinary, exceptional, astounding, astonishing, incredible, noteworthy.

Race Rivalry is among my favorites of your books. Thank you.

Very much enjoyed the book and am looking forward to next book. One detail that seems to have been over looked…
Suddenly, the door behind the trio opened. A sister stepped out and drove a kitchen knife into the base of a skull. As the man went down,
    Jucha, S. H.. Race Rivalry (p. 195).

In later chapters its noted that all 40 members of the team left.
Not a major plot hole or anything but given SADE’s desire for accuracy its just a small detail that the SADEs wouldn’t have missed.

You’re correct, Ambrose. Good catch! Originally, I meant to track was forty-one Naiads, Captain Reyes and forty team members. I’ve gone through the manuscript, corrected the errors, and I’m uploading the new documents to Amazon this morning. Cheers!

Hello RJ, thanks for your kind remarks and support. “Vortex Incursion,” book #4 of the Gate Ghosts series, should be released by April 15th, if not a few days sooner. Also, I’ve added you to the notification list.

After the first two books in this series I was expecting a short series similar in length to the Pyreans. Race Rivalry opens this up to be a short or long series. Waiting with baited breath for the next installment.

Mike, when I start a series, I’m rarely certain as to its final length. In the case of Gate Ghosts, I’m developing more plots twists than I’d originally imagined.

OMG, did you just let SADEs know there is a dominant race ruling other sentients, including a sentient computer? Game on. You just opened Pandora’s box for all kinds of new adventures and for the deliverance of subservient races. This series could be as big as the others. Hold on to your hats we are in for a wild ride. Tritiums are that little race Alex and co helped to defeat colony. SADEs will not be pleased to find out they’re in exile. Oh my how exciting. When is new book due? I’ve read whole series twice. Great stuff

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the Gate Ghosts series, David. The story arc gets more complex in “Vortex Incursion,” which is due in the first half of April. One correction … while, the Tritiums are similar in size and appearance to the Pimborians (Pims) in alliance space, they aren’t the same race. The Tritiums are always born as triplets and have telepathic capability. Cheers!

My mistake, I was thinking tiny aliens. All the more reason for Sades intervention looking out for the little guy. Such amazing character development. We should learning of other offspring of the original group and new Sades from them? So exciting.

I’m waiting for the next book because rumor has it there is a BIG musical number in it. The whole thing written, directed, and produced by Cordelia, of course. You just know Julien already has a hat and outfit suitable for it. My only concern about the whole production is Miranda hogging the spotlight and stealing the show.

Hi Dave, my narrator has had some schedule conflicts. At this time, it’s more likely that the Race Rivalry audiobook will be released in late March or the first week in April.

Audible is messing around with the download links from the website and is dropping the bitrate on alot of the titles down to 32kbps. Question I have is, will it be available in 64kbps/128kbps for us to download or will we be forced to download a 32kbps bitrate file?

K, I always upload MP3 chapter files for my audiobooks at 256kbps, which is higher than the minimum required 192kpbs bitrate. Unfortunately, I’ve no control over what ACX, Audible’s back end, does with the files and at what rate Audible posts the files. As a consumer, you might ask Audible why they aren’t publishing files at higher bitrates.

Yeah, I ask them about it and they evaded the question like the plague and feigned ignorance about it. With the last change they did with the removal of “format 4” and all new downloads being “Enhanced format”, they sent out an email about the change. With this reversion, there is no email about it.

Two years ago, I had this discussion with a German audiophile. He said that German publishers routinely made audiobooks available in the 64 or 128kpbs format. He was appalled that the Silver Ships series was only available in 32kpbs. I did note this recently on a website: “It’s recommended to change the Audible download format to AAX before you download, which is labeled as “Enhanced,” as you noted. According to the article these files play at 64kpbs. Also, the article said that an individual who purchased an audiobook in the AA format (32kpbs) can download the audiobook in the AAX format. These are the two articles I reviewed, which others blog readers might find illuminating: https://www.viwizard.com/audiobook-tips/top-3-things-about-amazon-audible.html and https://www.viwizard.com/audiobook-tips/convert-aaxc-to-mp3.html

Came here to check on next book and current book audio and got those answers so thanks, but what would be the effect of the different download speeds? Just the speed of the download or the quality of the performance?

          2. Scott Jucha Post author

The answer is both, Randy. You would have a longer download time for the 64kpbs audiobook download verus the 32kpbs version. What makes the higher sampling rate more desirable is the increase in audio quality.

Thanks! Just spent some time reading up on it… I am trying to hold off starting any new involved reading until the 15th!
