“Deadly Gambits” Released

“Deadly Gambits,” the seventh book in the Gate Ghosts series, is available on Amazon U.S. in ebook. Glossaries (PDF) are now available on my website at every novel’s webpage.

I recommend reading the previous two series of the Earthers’ saga, The Silver Ships and Pyreans, to understand some of the nuances in this third series.

Summary: Escalation is the watchword for the dangerous contest between the Imperium and the conclave. Executors seek the means to eject the conclave from the empire, and desperate measures are taken to design and construct new ships, which are armed with a terrible weapon.

Greedy, greedy, Michael! 🙂 It’ll be the usual three months for the next issue of the Earthers sage. I expect to publish “Allied Enemies” in early April.

Thanks. Seriously though, when I read Axis Crossing I wasn’t so sure about this series. It was good but average relative to your other books. That said, Gate Ghosts has just gotten better with each book.

I do have some questions about technology that I’ll hold for another month as they’ll possibly give away plot points.

OMG. You just dropped a surprising bomb on the series. Mercy, as if this series couldn’t get any more exciting, you just set the whole fireworks platform on fire. I love it. You are superb. Still think you need SADE help typing faster. Thanks Scott, outstanding story.

Thank you for the enthusiastic response Dave. You’ll note that I edited out your spoiler sentences. My listeners eagerly anticipate the release of each audiobook. In the case of “Deadly Gambits,” the audiobook won’t be out until mid-March. I hope you understand my preference for letting the listeners discover the surprises.

I was a bit worried your editor just ‘phoned it in’ during the holidays on this one as Hornflower went from Trident Captain (pg. 6) to freighter Captain by (pg. 39). I’m happy that was the only big inconsistency I saw that had getting me confused wondering if I misread something.
I very much enjoyed the story. I’m imagining the passenger area for the some of the new ship designs to look something like a reverse cruise ship. Instead of a balcony over looking what’s outside the ship it would over look a park area in the middle of the ship.
    Looking forward to Allied Enemies.

Thank you for the correction, Ambrose. It’s difficult for my editor and my group of proofreaders to catch every error. They do a marvelous job on plot and character inconsistencies, as well as grammar and punctuation mistakes. Sometimes, minor things slip past them.

Well, if the HS Transport will be servicing places like Jumanus and Vokslem, a Gorder sized traveler and a Gorder serviceable Quadrant will likely need to be made sometime in the future. Someone like Baltart will likely need some exoskeletal suit to get around without being moved around in a tub of water.

You can always reintroduce the Gotlians to help build underwater domed cities for the Vokslem and other aquatic races.

And the story just gets better! In the words of Oliver Swift “Please sir may I have another?”
    Thank you

Scott, I just finished rereading the Pyreans and Silver Ships. Question – do the Ollassa and Elvians ever join the Conclave?

That’s a subject I never addressed, Mike. I did leave the Elvians making planetfall and erecting domes. It would have been a lengthy process for the two races to find common ground. Certainly, it would have been an interesting story to pursue.

Scott, as usual, you can’t keep up with my hunger for your books. It’s ok I just reread the series (all of them!) I do have a question and I suppose it’s a bit of a spoiler. Are we seeing the last Earth colony ship?

Maybe have the fifth colony ship run into the remnants of the Messinants empire. I have a hard time thinking the Messiants didn’t voluntarily leave their experiments in Alliance space, but could easily believe something happened to their core civilisation that caused them to no longer have the resources to continue their experiments.

Hector’s fleet could be supporting the Sol Enclave in searching for them. You hinted that colony ship 5 went in the same general direction as the Honora Belle so this could work.

As much fun as it would be to discover the 5th colony, there is way to much suspense and intrigue going on in Axis space right now. A new serious threat bomb has just been dropped on us. Judging by the title of the next book there will be unusual alliances made. So exciting. Good thing I read these on kindle cause paperbacks would be in shreds as many times as i read them till next book.
